Matthias Kurth Executive Chairman of Cable Europe welcomes the second report by SamKnows released by the European Commission on the quality of broadband services in the EU.
“This is the right way to guaranty transparency for the European consumer. It’s also a compliment for cable operators because for the second time cable is the frontrunner when it comes to the fulfillment of the advertised speeds. Cable customers receive in average 89,7 % of the advertised broadband speed compared to 63,8 % for DSL connections and even better than FTTH with 82,7%.
The improvement of a 50 % jump in the average broadband speed compared to last year is absolutely astonishing.
This independent collected information by SamKnows is very helpful due to current discussions in the EU about the quality of broadband services. We should be careful with additional regulatory intervention for the sector, as this positive trend is a good sign for internet customers and also predicts that further improvements are on their way. As long as the European consumer is informed by independent studies and additional transparency tools, such as SamKnows, European consumers should not worry too much about the quality of internet access in the future. Infrastructure competition will be the best safeguard for the consumer.”
